We offer two options for completing your commercial pilot training : modular and integrated. Our advice is always to choose the right option for you and your circumstances. Integrated training offers a typically faster route to completion, but modular training can be more flexible around life's commitments. Read on for an explanation about the different routes to help identify what might work best for you.
Integrated pilot training
If you want to complete your training in under two years and can pay your fees over 18 months then this is the right option for you. Our Integrated Flight Deck Programme costs £87,950 and is completed entirely in the UK. Students that choose this route are typically able to fund this with savings, finance from parents, inheritance, secured loans – or a combination of the above (information about financing your pilot training can be found on our finance page).
Alternatively, our Integrated Lite Programme is the perfect alternative to our Integrated Flight Deck Programme and should be considered by students who want to take an integrated course but want to keep their career options open for as long as possible. It offers a basic 'no frills' package of exceptional standard which will deliver training from zero hours to MEP, MECPL, MEIR, without modules that are more tailored to the Commercial Airline Pilot candidate. At the end of their programme, our Integrated Lite students will have the option to specialise in different pathways including the Airline specific modules or Flight Instruction (both commercial and private) as well as using their Commercial Pilot Licence as a pilot in other parts of the aviation industry.
I chose FTA because it ticked the boxes that are important about a flight training organisation.
The great fleet of aircraft was the thing that led me to do more research and eventually to take a visit to the school for a tour. I also liked the fact that the student to instructor ratio is relatively small, allowing for more personalised training.

The Integrated Flight Deck Programme price includes all your airport fees, 1st attempt at tests, uniform, books, instruction, Apple iPad and David Clark H10-13.4 Headset.
The only items you need to fund separately are any repeated phases or tests and accommodation. The fees included are per the course syllabus and we advise that you budget up to an extra 10% in case of any additional training.
We have a database of local landlords and host families and support is given to find the right place live - whether it’s a student house, hotel, hosted family or apartment. If integrated training is not viable for you because of work, study or financial restraints, you can elect to study on a modular basis. See below for more information.
Modular pilot training
Those that elect to study for their frozen ATPL through modular training, are typically those that need to work to afford their training
Modular training allows you to spread the financial expenditure over a period of time that suits you, fitting personal, family or work commitments around realising your dream to be a pilot. This is great if you’re happy to spend a bit longer training (potentially two to three years) or are
I joined FTA as a modular student. I started with the Airport Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) ground school followed by the Hour Building, the Night Rating, the Instrumental Rating, and then the Commercial Pilot Licence.
The courses were very intense and challenging and there are times when everything can feel overwhelming. However, thanks to the structured syllabus and experienced instructors I was able to complete everything with no issues.
